YLA Sessions are exciting exploration into your leadership skills, our classic city, and working as a team. Enjoy getting to know other area teens and community members in each session.

Each session includes lots of time to meet and talk with other teens in the class, explore Athens with community tours, and set your goals as an civic leader.

Sunday, January 8, Leadership Retreat 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m 

Get to know each other as you thin about what it means to be a leader and how you want to grow in your own leadership skills.  Begin working in teams as you plan for upcoming sessions.

Parents/Guardians are invited to join the group at 4 p.m. for orientation, refreshments, and learn more from your teens.

Sunday, January 22, Community Volunteering 2:00 p.m.- 5 p.m. 
Learn more about volunteer opportunities in the Athens area as you meet with community nonprofit leaders and participate in activities to serve others in the Athens area.

Tuesday, February 7, Local Government in Action 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Spend the day with local government leaders and agencies. Step behind the scenes as you peek into the workings of Athens-Clarke County.  Learn with those who run our classic city and explore the challenges and opportunities as an Athens leader.

.Monday, February 27, Arts Adventure 4:30 p.m – 7:30 p.m.
Athens is known for a vibrant arts scene including musical and visual arts opportunities. Explore Athens art as you learn more from those whose livelihood has created one of the most unique arts communities in the state.

Monday, March 13, Economic Engines 4:30 p.m – 7:30 p.m.

Local business and industry leaders spend time with our team as we look at the economic engines that drive our community. Explore with the Athens Economic Development Authority and learn more about what our business (and consumer needs) are in Athens.

Sunday, March 26, Graduation 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

Having spent three months discovering Athens and your opportunities as leaders in our hometown, we celebrate your success. Families are invited to the first hour of the program for our recognition ceremony. We will follow with dinner for YLA participants and spend time with local leaders as we set goals for our future.
