YLA sessions are an exciting exploration of your leadership skills, our classic city, and teamwork. Participants enjoy getting to know other area teens and community members in each session.
Each session includes time to meet and talk with other teens in the class, explore Athens through community tours, and set your goals as a civic leader.
Sunday, January 11, Leadership Retreat 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m
Get to know each other as you think about what it means to be a leader and how you want to grow your leadership skills. Begin working in teams as you plan for upcoming sessions.
Parents/Guardians are invited to join the group at 4 p.m. for orientation and learn more from your teens.
Sunday, January 25, Community Volunteering 2:00 p.m.- 5 p.m.
Learn more about volunteer opportunities in the Athens area as you meet with community nonprofit leaders and participate in activities to serve others in the Athens area.
Tuesday, February 3, Local Government in Action 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Spend the day with local government leaders and agencies. Step behind the scenes as you peek into the workings of Athens-Clarke County. Learn with those who run our classic city and explore the challenges and opportunities as an Athens leader.
.Monday, February 23 Arts Adventure 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Athens is renowned for its vibrant arts scene, featuring diverse musical and visual arts opportunities. Explore Athens’ art as you learn more from those whose livelihoods have created one of the most unique art communities in the state.
Monday, March 17, Economic Engines 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Local business and industry leaders spend time with our team as we look at the economic engines that drive our community. Explore with the Athens Economic Development Authority and learn more about our business (and consumer needs) in Athens.
Sunday, March 29, Graduation 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
After three months of exploring Athens and its opportunities for leadership in our hometown, we celebrate your success. Families are invited to the program’s first hour for our recognition ceremony. We will follow up with dinner for YLA participants and spend time with local leaders as we set goals for our future.
